  1. X10WC - X-10 Windows Control - INSTALLATION NOTES
  2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  3. All X10WC documentation is in the X10WC.HLP file;launch WINHELP to view.
  4. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  5. X10WC is distributed as a ZIP'ed archive containing the following
  6. files:
  7.  
  8.       SETUP.EXE     - Installation Program (Self-Extracting)
  9.     FILE_ID.DIZ     - Documentation (Program Description)
  10.      README.WIN     - Documentation (Installation Notes)
  11.  
  12. BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO INSTALL X10WC ENSURE THAT THE VISUAL BASIC
  13. RUNTIME DLL (VBRUN300.DLL) RESIDES IN YOUR WINDOWS\SYSTEM SUBDIRECTORY.
  14. THIS FILE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE X10WC ZIP'ed ARCHIVE TO MINIMIZE
  15. DOWNLOAD TIME; IT IS AVAILABLE FROM A VARIETY OF SOURCES INCLUDING
  16. COMPUSERVE.
  17.  
  18. To install X10WC:
  19.  
  20.   1) UNZIP the X10WC archive to a diskette or sub-directory of your
  21.      choice.
  22.  
  23.   2) Start Microsoft WINDOWS 3.1
  24.  
  25.   3) Select the RUN sub-menu item under the Program Manager File Menu
  26.      and run the SETUP.EXE program that was unZIP'ed in (1).
  27.  
  28. The SETUP.EXE Program will perform the following steps:
  29.  
  30.   1) Prompt you for a BACKUP sub-directory if you indicate that you
  31.      would like to backup any replaced files.
  32.  
  33.   2) Prompt you for a destination sub-directory for X10WC. (Default:X10WC)
  34.  
  35.   3) Decompress & Copy the following files to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  36.      subdirectory:
  37.  
  38.              DDEML.DLL           MHGLBX.VBX
  39.             RK31VB.DLL           MHGMUL.VBX
  40.            PDQCOMM.DLL           MHGTXT.VBX
  41.           CMDIALOG.VBX           TXTWND.VBX
  42.            LEDDISP.VBX          VBCTL3D.VBX

  44.   4) Decompress & Copy the following files to the X10WC sub-directory:

  46.              X10WC.EXE         REGISTER.FRM
  47.              X10WC.HLP         REGISTER.CIS
  48.               XDCW.EXE         DISKETTE.FRM
  49.               XDCw.HLP           README.WIN
  50.                X10.DAT          SAMPLES.TXT

  52.   5) Prompt you for a Program Manager Group Name (Default: X10WC)
  53.  
  54.   6) Create the following Program Manager Items and add them to the
  55.      Program Manager Group name specified in 5).
  56.  
  57.             X10WC (launches X10WC.EXE)
  58.             X10WC Help (launches WINHELP.EXE)
  59.             XDCw (launches XDCw.EXE)
  60.             XDCw Help (launches WINHELP.EXE)
  61.             Registration Form (launches NOTEPAD.EXE)
  62.             CompuServe Registration (launches NOTEPAD.EXE)
  63.             Diskette Upgrade (launches NOTEPAD.EXE)
  64.             ReadMe (launches NOTEPAD.EXE)

  66.   7) Optionally decompress and install the following DDE Demonstration
  67.      application files to the X10WC sub-directory:

  69.            X10DEMO.EXE
  70.           X10DDEMO.FRM
  71.           X10DDEMO.FRX
  72.           X10DDEMO.MAK
  73.           COMMANDS.TXT
  74.  
  75.   8) Create the following Program Manager Items and add them to the
  76.      Program Manager Group name specified in 5) if you chose to
  77.      install the following DDE Demonstration:
  78.             X-10 DDE Demo (launches X10DEMO.EXE)
  79.             X-10 DDE VB Source (launches VB.EXE - if Visual Basic is
  80.                                 installed on your system)

  82.   9) Create a Program Manager Item entitled Install Log that launches
  83.      NOTEPAD.EXE to view the INSTALL.LOG file created during the
  84.      installation process.

  86. NOTE: The setup programs will NOT modify any of the following files:
  87.           AUTOEXEC.BAT
  88.             CONFIG.SYS
  89.                WIN.INI
  90.             SYSTEM.INI
